We are very lucky to have such talented musicians who assist us in the music ministry across our parishes. Liturgical Music assists us to participate in the liturgy and to involve us more deeply in the prayer of the Mass. Now that Covid restrictions are easing the choir at the Basilica of Our Lady of Victories will begin to rehearse once again and lead us in song at the 10.00 am Mass. I am grateful to David Agg who has filled in as organist after Chris Trikilis left us in April 2020 for St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane. I am also pleased to announce that Our Lady of Victories now has a new, ongoing Choir Director.
Mr John Weymouth has agreed to take up the position of Director of the Basilica Choir at Our Lady of Victories, Camberwell. John is known to many of us through the work that he has already done as an occasional organist at OLV.
John comes to us with a wealth of experience. He has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and a Diploma LMusA in pianoforte. John is also well experienced with liturgical music, choirs and organ. He is a former member of St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir. He has been organist at Deepdene & Balwyn Parish since 2007, and assistant organist at Melbourne Welsh Church since 2019 and of Camberwell Grammar School since 2009. He has fulfilled the role of interim organist and choir director at Sacred Heart Church, Kew on two occasions. In recent years John has pursued the organ with greater interest and has been working with organist and teacher, John Mallinson. I am sure that you will join with me in welcoming John to this new role.

Great news. It is such a wonderful organ at OLV
Sister Anne Byrne says:
I would like to welcome John Weymouth to the parish and I thank him and the choir for leading us all in our Eucharistic celebrations.
I’m taking this opportunity to ask that the good people who project the words of the hymns make sure that when they turn the ‘page’ that they do it so that we see the first word of the line in time in order to sing it on the beat. It is often too late and we lose the flow of the
music.
Yours sincerely
Anne Byrne
