Pope Leo XIV’s First Encyclical

Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (2026), reflects on how humanity can safeguard its God-given dignity in an age shaped by artificial intelligence, arguing that technology is not inherently harmful but must always serve the human person and the common good.

It emphasizes key themes such as the dignity of work, the protection of truth and freedom, ethical governance of technology, and the need for global cooperation to prevent new forms of inequality, manipulation, or warfare. Ultimately, Pope Leo calls all people to “remain human” by prioritising relationships, moral responsibility, and openness to God, so that technological progress contributes to a more just, peaceful, and loving society.
