OHR Colour Explosion Fun Run

On Friday, 4 November, Our Holy Redeemer Primary School (OHR) held its first ever Colour Explosion Fun Run.  The students were so excited throughout the morning in anticipation of the event, and they were not disappointed.  The weather remained fine during the afternoon, the colours exploded around the students as they ran the course, and the parents and staff couldn’t contain their smiles (and laughter).

Thank you to Rebecca Capello and Jess Frost for all the work they did in coordinating many aspects of the event to ensure our students had a fun and memorable experience.  Bec and Jess put out a call for parent helpers and received an overwhelming response.  Without the support of all the parents on the day, it would not have been as successful as it was.  So, on behalf of the students, thank you to everyone.

The students should be applauded for both their positive attitude on the day and the funds they generated in the lead up to the Colour Run.  All money raised will go directly to our Parents and Friends Association which, in turn, will come back to the school to benefit our students.

By Friday afternoon the students had raised a profit in excess of $11,500.  What an amazing result!

Grade 5/6 Canberra Camp

From the 7-10 November, OHR Year 5/6 students finally made it to Canberra for Camp – this was originally scheduled for March, but the decision to postpone this worked well.  All students were able to come and we experienced a brilliant week of weather, with the temperature consistently hovering in the low to mid 20’s.  Every day contained a full schedule in which the students visited significant sites, where they had the opportunity to deepen their learning while engaging in rich experiences.

It was hard to determine what the students found most interesting, as every site we visited held some sort of surprise.  The Australian Institute for Sport rated highly, but so too did the Royal Australian Mint.  For some, it was visiting and engaging in hands-on experiences at Questacon, while others were captivated and moved by the Australian War Memorial.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the twilight guided tour of the Australian National Botanic Gardens where a blood moon was witnessed.  The evening round of minigolf at the Canberra International Golf Centre also proved to be a hit with students and adults, alike.  The CSIRO was a relatively new addition to our schedule and one that set the students on team challenges of discovery.

Overall, every student was provided with a week away that they will remember for a long time to come.
