News from Our Holy Redeemer Primary School in Surrey Hills …
We are near the end of term 4 and what a fabulous year of learning it has been for our students. The end of a school year provides us with an opportunity to reflect on where as a school we have been, what we have learnt, how we have grown. As the year draws to a close, our students have been very productive!
In light of the hot weather experienced on Friday, 29 November we were fortunate that we were able to relocate the singing of the carols into the air-conditioned Parish Hall. At the conclusion of the singing, everyone was able to pour outside to enjoy the perfect conditions for our Twilight Christmas Celebration.
Thank you to the PFA and all parents who supported this event to ensure it was a wonderful evening for our families and those who visited from the broader community. The event had a great community feel, including a visit by (a very hot) Santa, the creation of balloon critters, face painting, ice-creams, and the exceptional barbeque which proved to be hugely popular.
What a great way to celebrate the season of Advent.
We are extremely lucky at OHR to have Mrs Stephanie Axon as our Science and STEM Specialist Teacher. Each class has a designated 40 minute Science Lesson and a separate 40 minute STEM Lesson each week. This term in STEM, students in the different levels have been busy creating peg bots, kinetic sculptures, exploring our new Micro:bits and the Preps have even been exploring their germinated seeds in their own mini greenhouses.
At the whole School Assembly last Monday, 9 December, Jess Wilson MP was our special guest. Jess congratulated all of the Senior School students who entered the Kew Future Leaders Speech Competition and presented them with certificates. The OHR Winner, Betty J went on to represent OHR at the final of this inaugural competition which was held at Parliament House on Monday, 2 September.
The main reason for Jess’ visit on Monday was to present Betty with her prizes as the overall winner of the competition. This was a fantastic achievement by Betty and something the entire OHR Community is very proud of.
Next Monday, 16 December we will celebrate our Graduation Mass – we pray for our graduating students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
And then the year ends. As we are all busy preparing to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us remember that Christmas is a time to appreciate our families and our friendships. Our school community wishes all parishioners the peace and blessings of Christmas and thank you for your support of our school community.
