Our History

Our amalgamation
Our Lady of Pentecost Parish was established on 26 October 2024, through the amalgamation of the Parishes of Camberwell, Balwyn Deepdene and Surrey Hills Wattle. Each church within the new parish will continue to retain its original name.
Theological reasons for this new Parish
A parish is more than a geographic area. It is a community of people, whose hearts and minds are united around the person of Jesus Christ. Whereas the parishes of the past were focused on building schools for the Catholic education of the young and creating groups and clubs that held Catholics together, the parish of the future will have a much more outward looking focus.

Our brand

The logo is rich with symbolism, beginning with a delicate outline of Mary, surrounded by five gentle frame drops.

Our Lady of Pentecost represents the emergence of something new, inspired by the Spirit. The term ’Pente’ comes from the Greek word meaning ‘five’. There is synergy with our ‘five’ worshipping communities of All Hallows, Balwyn, Our Lady of Victories, Camberwell, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Deepdene, Our Holy Redeemer, Surrey Hills and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Wattle Park. Together, they form a new Pente-cost. There is a sense of continuity yet a call to a new mission and a new direction being led by the Spirit.

Our Governance

Our Parish Priest, Fr Sang Ho holds ultimate responsibility for the good governance and effective operations of the parish. He is supported and guided in this responsibility through both a Parish Pastoral Council and Finance and Investment Committee which serve as advisory and consultative bodies and facilitate the achievement of the mission of the parish community. The governance structure reflects a synodal church which respects the co-responsibility of priest and faithful for the full life of the Church.
