Missionaries of Hope among all peoples

Catholic Mission is the Australian agency of the International Pontifical Mission Societies, working on behalf of the Pope to support Church-run mission programs around the world.

Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, last year Catholic Mission were able to support life-giving programs like the House of Mercy which provides a safe shelter to people in need; from people experiencing homelessness, those impacted by domestic violence and people in need of first aid services.  On average, more than 400 people in need receive support from the House of Mercy every month.

But there is still work to be done in many other Church-run programs around the world.

This year, Pope Francis called us to be “Missionaries of hope among all peoples’, extending Christ’s love to those in need.  In this spirit, we invite parishioners to support vulnerable people through the work of Sr Jane Kaputa at the Women’s Coooperative, and midwife Kayula at the Chilong Mission Hospital in Zambia.

Through the Women’s Cooperative, Sr Jane supports women whose families face worsening drought and painful choices – selling crops for survival or feeding their children.  Through this project women are gaining sustainable farming skills and resources to boost their production and generate income.

Through the Chilonga Mission Hospital, midwife Kayula meets expectant mothers, who endure dangerous journeys for medical care, only to face overcrowding, limited resources, and the heartbreaking risk of losing their baby or their own life.

With your support, the hospital can receive crucial upgrades to equipment and facilities that are required to provide women and their babies with the care and dignity they deserve.

A special collection will be taken up at all Masses this weekend to support this vital work.   Appeal envelopes are available in all our churches.  All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.  Alternately, you may like to donate online at Catholic Mission or use the QR code below:

Together, we can uplift communities and bring hope around the world.

Thank you for your generosity.
