Carrying Forward the Plenary Council

Plenary Council

Fifth Plenary Council of Australia

From 2021 to 2024, Catholics worldwide were asked to discern together how the Church can proclaim the Gospel in line with its mission and what steps the Holy Spirit is inviting us to take to grow as a synodal Church.

In Australia, the bishops invited all Catholics to contribute to the Fifth Plenary Council held in two assemblies in October 2021 and July 2022 by considering:

1. What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?
2. How do we become a more Christ-centred Church?

As we continue the journey together

At Pentecost 2023, the Australian Bishops Conference published Carrying Forward the Plenary Council: As we continue the journey together.  This document encourages Catholic parishes, schools and other communities to pray, reflect and review what they are already doing or could do in response to the commitments outlined by the Council members in the decrees (see below for the Council decrees).
