Our Partnerships in Outreach

Brigidine Asylum Seeking Project (BASP)
Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project (BASP) was established in 2001 with its aim being to provide hospitality and practical support to people seeking asylum. Since the inception of BASP, our parish continues to contribute monthly donations of non-perishable foods, cleaning products, toiletries and baby goods as well as gift cards. St Vincent de Paul Conferences
Camberwell, Deepdene Balwyn and Surrey Hills Wattle Park Conferences
Our parish is part of Conferences of the St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria.
Our parish ‘Vinnies’ groups respond to calls from people in need in their parishes by providing food, clothing, utilities and other forms of assistance. The Camberwell and Deepdene/Balwyn Conferences also respond to people in Prahran, St Kilda, South Melbourne, Richmond, Fitzroy and Carlton.

Membership of the St Vincent de Paul Society provides parishioners with opportunities to live the gospel message in variety of ways, the most ongoing of these including:
- visiting people in their homes in the parish area and in inner suburbs, to help find the most appropriate response to the person’s or family’s needs;
- working as a volunteer in the Hawthorn, Mont Albert Village and East Kew Vinnies Centres, which provide furniture, clothing and household goods to families and people who are in need;
- packing and delivering food hampers for needy families at Christmas;
- providing financial assistance to twin conferences in the Philippines, India and Burma;
- providing administrative support at the Society’s central office by way of assisting with mail outs and receiving calls for assistance at the State Call Centre.
Becoming Involved
Our Conferences are always looking for new members to assist in our work. If you are interested in joining or finding out more about our works, please contact the Conference President(s) via the Parish Office.

CatholicCare Victoria
We are now in our sixth year of our partnership with CatholicCare who assist us in supporting asylum seekers and refugees. In 2015, Deepdene and Balwyn built two town houses to aid our asylum seeker and refugee ministry. Our funding helps significantly with support in the way of
rent, payment of utilities, health and educational support as well as material aid in the form of supermarket vouchers for many asylum seeker and
refugee families experiencing some very difficult life circumstances.
