I am pleased to share that the parish has successfully completed the tender process for stage one of the Basilica Enhancement Project, which involves the enlargement and refurbishment of the narthex. The works will transform the narthex into a brighter and more welcoming space and will include the addition of a kitchenette to allow for hospitality after Mass and other events.
It is pleasing to note that the successful tender has come within the project cost approved by the Archbishop and is expected to cost approximately half a million dollars. The works will commence on Tuesday, 1 September, and are anticipated to be completed by the end of October. We hope to resume full operations in early November.
The construction works will have minimal impact on the normal liturgical celebrations and parish activities in the Basilica. However, for the first three weeks of the project, the accessible entrance on the south side of the Basilica will be unavailable due to the essential works undertaken to improve access and ensure compliance with accessibility. Access to the Basilica during those three weeks will be via the main front entrance only. We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience during this time.
