Book Launch – Into the Future

‘Now when Jesus had finished saying these words, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as their scribes’
Matthew 7:28-29

Fr Frank O’Loughlin continues to keep busy, not only contributing weekly to our parish newsletter but has now completed another book.

The new book Into the Future will be launched on Thursday, 29 August at 7.00 pm in the Gathering Space at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene.

Into the future explores the necessity of change for the Catholic Church’s well-being and growth, especially in the context of our increasingly secular society.  It reflects on how the church in its history has responded to similar changes and calls present-day Catholic disciples to remain faithful to the heart of the gospel message and to witness to that message in ways that are faithful and prayerful, seeking new ways of proclaiming the kingdom of God in our own time.

The book is faith-filled, realistic and encouraging.  Above all, it affirms the Holy Spirit’s constant presence in the church – a source of faith and hope in times of change.

Following the launch Fr Frank will offer two more evenings:

Change in the Church’s history

Sometimes the impression can be given that our time is the first time that there has been significant and demanding change in the life of the Church. This is not true. It can be helpful to look at other times of quite radical change. So, we will look at four times in the past which have known such change: (1) The shift from the Jewish world into the pagan world (N.T.); (2) Christianity becoming the religion of the whole Roman world (4th-5th C); (3) The rise of cities and universities in the Middle Ages (12-13th C); (4) The Enlightenment and Revolution (18th-19th C).

Changes today and into the future

What is particular about the changes we are experiencing today? What do they mean for the life of the Church? – for individuals, for our parishes, for the universal Church?

We are experiencing a transition, not an ending!

What ought we leave behind? What do we need to take with us on this journey into the future?

These will take place from 7.00 pm in the Gathering Space at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene.  No registration is required.

Copies of Fr Frank’s new book will be available for purchase at the launch or may be ordered from Pauline Books and Media.
