Fr Frank to join our community

We are getting ready to welcome Father Frank O’Loughlin to Surrey Hills Wattle Park!

Father Frank has been Parish Priest at Sacred Heart Parish, Sandringham for the last 24 years.  He is a renowned theologian and adult educator.  Fr Frank has researched and taught in the areas of fundamental theology, sacramental theology and liturgy in the Archdiocese of Melbourne for the last 50 years.   In recent years he has published a number of books including This Time in the Church and The Future of the Sacrament of Penance, and much on the Eucharist including his latest book New Wine Skins.

Fr Frank is retiring from his responsibilities as Parish Priest in August this year.  He will live in the parish house at Barton Street, Surrey Hills, supported by the Priests Retirement Foundation, and will become a member of our parish community.   Frank is keen to be involved in the life of our parishes here at Surrey Hills Wattle Park and Camberwell, Balwyn and Deepdene.  He will have much to offer us in the way of adult education, liturgy and friendship.  Frank has been a great friend to me over my time as a priest and it will be wonderful to share the coming years of priesthood with him.

We are blessed to have such generous and talented (retired) priests in our diocese who continue to live out their priestly ministry in new ways.   I look forward to welcoming Frank among us in the coming weeks.

Fr Brendan

  1. That is great news! Welcome to Father Frank.
Dear Brendan, Would you be interested in having a rail installed around the pulpit in OLV Basilica ? I think it would help those who find the steps difficult and I notice that Archbishop Denis is finding this the case.
In watching Mass on demand in Sydney St Francis Xavier Jesuit church Lavender Bay there is a rail inserted there and it works well and looks neat.
I just thought it was worth mentioning.

  2. We are very fortunate to have Fr Frank O’Loughlin join our communities.

  3. Congratulations to Father Frank. You deserve retirement. You most likely remember me from the time that Eileen and I wee in the Melbourne parish. We then moved to Ballarat and finished my Masters in Theology. Unfortunately I got very sick and could not complete my doctorate.Yes I have published my book,”Christian Monastic Development in the Fourth Century” with a forward by our Bishop Paul Bird. If you are interested, please let me know.
