Fundraising with the French

After having a very challenging year with every social and fundraising event being cancelled due to Covid restrictions, the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) at Our Holy Redeemer Primary School came up with a novel way to fundraise in a Covid safe way.  The Association joined forces with Bistro Chez Nous in Surrey Hills, for a Saturday Night French Lockdown 4-Course French Winter Cook-at-Home Feast on Saturday, 14 August.

Cameron Jackson, a member of the PFA, reflects:

“We cobbled together a plan to provide something social for the school community to participate in and at the same time support a local hard-hit hospitality business.  The idea was that we could all enjoy a meal, an experience together, but while apart and at the same time raise a few dollars for the school.  Chris, the owner and chef at Bistro Chez Nous put together a “prepare at home” four-course French feast, with matched wines available.”

On the menu was Charcuterie, Soup a l’oignon (vegetable), Cassoulet with sides of creamy mash, French beans and fresh baguette, petit fours and matched wines.

The evening was a huge success.  Ninety-two meals were ordered and sent out with a French themed quiz, a French themed word search for the kids and access to a French night soundtrack to set the mood.

The school community had a whole lot of fun and something out of the ordinary happened during lockdown 6.0.

As the evening was so popular, the PFA have come up with the next instalment, an Italian Night in collaboration with local Italian restaurant Il Sogno, Mont Albert.
