Shanti Michael joins us as our new Director of Music across our parishes. Shanti has recently moved back to Melbourne from Portland, Oregon. She holds a Master of Sacred Music from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA, specializing in Choral Conducting. Upon completing her Masters, Shanti worked with the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur’s Liturgical Commission to provide workshops and liturgical music resources for the parishes in the Archdiocese. She then moved to Oregon where she was Music Director and Coordinator for Catholic and Anglican Parishes. She was also an active chorister in Portland, and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the ensemble Cappella Romana based in Portland Oregon, a vocal ensemble whose mission is to give a glimpse of transcendence through the music of the Christian East and West.
Prior to her Masters, Shanti studied and worked in Melbourne. She completed her Bachelor of Music at the Australian Catholic University, was a chorister and committee member of St. Francis’ Choir and was the re-founder of the St. Francis Youth Choir. Shanti looks forward to settling back in Melbourne, and is looking forward to serving the Parishes of Camberwell, Balwyn Deepdene and Surrey Hills Wattle Park as their new Director of Music.
