Parish Sacramental Program for School Aged Children

This year has been a challenge for anyone wishing to celebrate a milestone with family and friends.  Weddings, Baptisms, Sacraments and other events in the life cycle of the Church have all been postponed for “after lockdown” or when the “density quotient” for guests reaches an acceptable level.

Archbishop Peter Comensoli recently announced a change in the guidelines for administering sacraments which were postponed from this year, and some parishes pushed ahead to deliver the postponed sacraments before year end.  Mindful of the school year, and the importance of family involvement and preparation, the parish made the decision to offer the sacrament ceremonies next year to both 2020 and 2021 recipients.

The Parishes of Camberwell, Balwyn & Deepdene are pleased to announce the proposed dates for our Parish Sacramental Program for 2021.

Reconciliation Students in Year 3, 2020 Tuesday, 9 March 2021
Reconciliation Students in Year 3, 2021 Tuesday, 23 March 2021
First Eucharist Students in Year 4 2020 Sunday, 30 May 2021
First Eucharist Students in Year 4, 2021 Sunday, 6 June 2021
Confirmation All students in Year 6 2020 & 2021 Sunday, 7 November 2021 (TBC)

As part of the school curriculum, children attending our Catholic primary schools generally prepare for the sacrament appropriate for their year level – Reconciliation in Year 3, First Eucharist in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6.

Children attending other schools are invited to take part in our parish preparation program.  The program runs one afternoon a week, after school, for around 6 weeks prior to the celebration of the sacrament.

At the beginning of 2020, a number of children took part in the parish preparation program for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, there is no requirement for them to complete the preparation program again in 2021.

However, if your child has not completed a preparation program, and you would like them to do so, you are invited to enrol them for the 2021 program.

Online registration for Sacraments will open on Monday, 1 February 2021.
