As a parish we wish to congratulate Monsignor Greg Bennet on his appointment as Bishop of Sale.
Greg is known to many in our area, most recently as a former Parish Priest at St Bede’s North Balwyn, but he has deeper roots in Balwyn. We believe that he is the first past student of All Hallows Catholic Parish Primary School to be made a Bishop.
Bishop Elect Greg is giving early signals about his synodal approach to being a bishop. “It is a responsibility which cannot be exercised in isolation, but in close cooperation with the clergy, the faithful and those in diocesan leadership” he is quoted as saying.
The Archdiocese of Melbourne will certainly miss Greg, who has held many roles including Parish Priest, Director of Ministry to Priests, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia.
He will be a welcomed member of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, now headed by Archbishop Mark Coleridge of Brisbane, and a valued leader in the Victorian Church along with Bishop Shane MacKinlay in Sandhurst, Bishop Paul Bird in Ballarat and Archbishop Peter Comensoli in Melbourne.
