Learning at Our Lady’s

Our  students have continued  exploring the wonderful inquiry question, “How can we be part of the solution?” 

Our students have explored problems from within their home setting to world wide problems, and have made rich  connections to our faith in regards to our calling to be peacemakers and to care and take action for the vulnerable in our world.

We also made connections to Reconciliation Week as we gathered together to pray for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and we particularly remembered 27 May and 3 June as important dates in Australia’s history.  We reflected upon the 1967 referendum when Australians voted to remove clauses in the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and 3 June which marks the historic 1992 Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised native title.

We began every day by welcoming each other in our First Nations Language, the language of the Wurundjeri People. The Wurundjeri people speak Woiwurrung.

We greeted each other with the word “Wominjeka” which  means Hello/Welcome.

We continue to sing the Aboriginal Lord’s Prayer and include an acknowledgement of the land in all our gatherings.

Eucharist Reflection Day.

A wonderful day was had at Lysterfield, Don Bosco Retreat Center, with children from Our Holy Redeemer, Our Lady’s and our parish catechist students.  The children thoroughly enjoyed singing with Gen Bryant and her team and it was a great day of sharing about the special step they were taking in their faith journey.  We were so grateful for the clear weather, which enabled us to take a beautiful walk in such a lovely setting.  A great day was had by all!
