Preps at OHR celebrated their 100 days of learning by arriving at school wearing clothes that were typical of what might be worn by a 100-year-old person. What wonderful imaginations the Preps have and what magnificent outfits they arrived in.
The day started with making their special 100-Day glasses and during writing they made their 100 Day Bucket List in which they shared their thoughts and ideas about what they might like to see before reaching 100 years of age! Such wonderful imaginings with those wanting to see Disneyland; all the ocean animals; hoping to have grandchildren; building a raft; with others listing what they might like to be – a mother, a teacher, a journalist, a football star and a soccer player!
The Preps were joined by their buddies who helped them count their collections of 100 and estimated how many lollies were in the jar. The students held a dance party in their classroom and then watched the Disney classic ‘101 Dalmatians’.
The day ended with celebratory cupcakes with their buddies and parents – a wonderful end to the day celebrating their 100th day of learning. Congratulations to all our Prep students.
During the week we also had author, actor, playwright and comedian, Damian Callinan, visit us in order to run a workshop with our Years 3-6 students on his children’s novel “Weird School”. A crazy and fun-filled session was had by all!

Big thanks to Our Holy Redeemer Primary School in Surrey Hills for inviting me to visit & share the upside down world of Weird School (Penguin Books Australia). I couldn’t believe how creative & fun you all were. I also couldn’t believe that Hagrid & Tiny Ed Sheeran were available at short notice to recreate the Sumo Wrestling bout from the Out of Bounds story. [FYI, Tiny Ed is recovering well & should be out of hospital by Christmas].
After more than two and a half decades of service to the OHR community, our School Secretary, Ms Trish Fisher has made the decision to retire at the end of the current school year. Trish began working at OHR in a part-time capacity during 1994 and moved into the full-time position in 1997. Trish has witnessed a lot of changes in the school during this time. In more recent years, Trish has been noticing an ever-growing number of past students returning to the school as young parents.
This year will also see our wonderful Library Technician, Mrs Leone Gole, retiring. Leone joined OHR in 1993 and has developed many life-long friendships during her time with us and is leaving behind an amazing legacy.
The school community will celebrate both Trish and Leone’s eventual departure in fine style.
