OLPS School 2022

School Voices

Be here. Be you. Belong.

What a few amazing weeks it has been for the Our Lady’s Primary School (OLPS) community. Thanks to the passion and dedication of our staff and families, we have been able to provide our students with the opportunity to shine across so many learning areas.

STEM Specialist

This year at OLPS we have introduced the role of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Specialist. This program aligns with our school’s Inquiry Based Learning program and provides students with an opportunity to participate in science experiments, implement advanced applications of digital technologies and discover engineering design processes. This term our students have been investigating human biology and health sciences. Our Year 3-6 students have compiled research on organs and systems in the human body. They are now using Scratch coding and Shakeys to create an interface that will allow them to share their learning with our school community. Meanwhile, our Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students are using digital technology to creatively share what they have learned about healthy eating and exercise.

Religious Education

On Friday, 10 March, the school staff gathered to develop further their understandings about best practice in Religious Education. We were very grateful to have Father Brendan who led us and facilitated discussions around the teachings of Easter and assisted us in our understanding of this important season in the Church Calendar. We reflected upon ways in which we can teach Religious Education, in a way that engages students, is relevant  and encourages them to live their ‘lives to the full’ and make a difference in the world.

Through our whole school fun run, we look forward to raising money for CARITAS and having fun at the same time. We also continue our focus on Prayer during Lent, with our Bedtime Prayers on our website and through students and families participating interactive prayer stations as a way of celebrating Easter together before the Easter Holiday break.
