Walk for Tiwi – update

Earlier this year local school principals as part of their professional development, visited Bathurst Island including a meeting with Sisters Amelia Fatima and Anne Gardiner who shared their experiences of working in the remote setting, underlining the important role of St Therese’s Church in the local community.  The church is in need of restoration.  The principals shared their experiences with the school communities and they undertook the action to raise the funds for the restoration of the church.

Melbourne’s east-central region Catholic school communities have now raised nearly $8,500 to help restore St Therese’s Church on Bathurst Island through a Walk for Tiwi held across the schools during Terms 3 and 4.  Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project.

Colour Explosion Fun Run

On Friday, 3 November our students participated in the Colour Explosion Fun Run which provided to be a great day.  The weather remained fine throughout the day, warming up as the Colour Run began.  The students were brimming with smiling faces and enthusiasm as the anticipation built up of being showered with water and colour.   It was a fun and memorable experience for our students and we thank all those involved. We congratulate all our students for their positive attitude.  All monies raised go to our PFA which, in turn, will come back to the school for the benefit of our students.

House Debating

As part of their English learning in Term 4, all students in Year 5/6 participate in a House Debate.  The benefits of debating are immense, and can be categorised into four areas being thinking and research skills, communication skills, social skills and sportsmanship.

Students from other year levels attend these debates and this exposure is a valuable asset for when they are older and it is their turn to debate.
