This week we hear from Our Holy Redeemer Primary School…
This year, the RE School Leaders set a challenge for each class at the school. The challenge was to show some initiative and organise a fundraiser to raise as much money as they could for Project Compassion. They could do it by themselves, with their family or a group of friends. They were told it might be as simple as asking family and friends for donations because you are committing to giving up something for Lent or a much bigger idea – whatever they liked.
They created a different website for each class where family and friends could go to and donate. If they raised some cash, it was suggested that their parents might be able to take the cash and make the online donation for that amount.
The fundraising target for each class was set at $20 times the number of students in their class. If they reached the target by the end date they got to see their teachers drenched with ice cold water. Four classes were successful in reaching their target – congratulations to the students of Prep HW, 1/2HH, 1/2GC and 5/6MM. Download the video to watch the teachers being drenched.
Combining these class totals with the money the RE Leaders made selling zooper doopers after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Term 1, OHR was able to raise in excess of $3,500 for Project Compassion this year. This is an amazing amount we are all really proud of.
On 16-17 May our Year 3/4 students travelled to Camp Jungai in Rubicon for a one night camp. The students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Indigenous Culture. Developed with specialist input from the Taungurung people, cultural sessions are the centre piece of Jungai’s offerings. Everybody had a fantastic time and the Year 3/4 students should be commended for their outstanding attitude, behaviour and spirit while away.
It was terrific to see so many mums and children filling the hall on Friday, 10 May for the Mothers’ Day Breakfast. The hall was beautifully set up and the selection of food was amazing. It was very special when the children were invited to present their mum with the gift they had created in class. The posies created by Natalie Allan were also a huge hit.
Full credit to the mums and dads who prepared for the event. It was great that so many dads were on hand to help serve and clean up during the morning.
Thanks to the PFA for their support and development, the new Imaginary Garden is nearing completion. Our students will be able to play and explore the new installations next week.
