Our Lady of Good Counsel Feast Day

On Friday, 29 April, the students and staff of Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel and the anniversary of the Dedication of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

The day started by meeting as a school and parish community for Mass.  Throughout the day, each class participated in a drumming incursion to celebrate and spread the joy of the day.  Students explored Mary and the history of the feast day, and will continue to learn how we can live in her image throughout the Month of Mary (May).  The students also engaged in activities with their buddy classes to foster the beautiful community spirit that is present at Our Lady of Good Counsel School.  To finish the celebration, classes enjoyed a family style BBQ lunch with their buddy classes.

In honour of Our Lady of Good Counsel, we chose to show mothers in need in our community the care that they deserve this Mother’s Day.  Students were invited to wear free dress and bring a donation to go to the St Kilda Mums, Make A Mother’s Day campaign.  The school will also be collecting preloved goods throughout the term that will support mothers and families who desperately need them.

This was a great way to finish the first week of Term Two and celebrate the Blessed Mother Mary, whom the school is named after.

Everyone across the parishes are invited to join with OLGC Primary School in the spirit of Mary to contribute to the school goods drive by dropping off pre-loved goods at the school office in support of the important work of the St Kilda Mums.  Alternatively, to make a financial donation visit the St Kilda Mums website
