Season of Creation

Join together as Christian Churches for the Season of Creation

September is the Season of Creation.  This is an initiative of an ecumenical steering committee, which was formed to help Christians around the world respond to the environmental crisis which continues to grow across the globe.  Christian churches have been called to strengthen their united response.  The Season of Creation committee has provided resources to empower Christians to respond in faith during this shared season of reflection and action.

So let’s make a difference!  Join us in caring for God’s creation with Christians around the world.  We’re not asking you to create anything new!  We invite you to make a personal difference in your life to help reconcile, restore and rejoice in God’s creation.  We challenge you to pledge to make a difference and share what you are doing on our parish social media during this month.

What can you do to help save the planet and the vulnerable?  Post what you are doing to make a difference and tag us!  The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed that if we slow down our use of resources and commit to rekindling the earth we can renew it.  We can make a difference in small ways…

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Pray

World Day of Prayer for Creation is on Tuesday, 1 September.

Reflect on what we have done to the Earth and what we need to do to give back to the Earth and the vulnerable.

You can also sign up to the Online World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

  • Sunday Mass

Join us virtually for Mass on Sunday, 6 September and Sunday, 4 October celebrating the beginning and the end of the Season of Creation.

  • Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as we share ways we can work together to reconcile, restore and rejoice in creation. Post your pledge and what you are doing to make a difference during the season of creation.
  • Join in World CleanUp Day – Saturday, 19 September.  This year it’s all about digital cleanup.  The carbon footprint of the internet and the systems supporting it account for about 3.7% of global greenhouse emissions, which is similar to the amount produced globally by the airline industry pre COVID-19. Some studies estimate that in a decade the internet network will produce 20% of the world’s greenhouse gases.  Learn more about Digital World Cleanup Day
  • Listen and see what Pope Francis has to say about the Season of Creation as he invites us to join him (YouTube link).

The Season of Creation unites the world’s 2.2 billion Christians.
