The Xavier Social Justice Network (XSJN) has among a number of volunteering opportunities, two that they would like to highlight.
The first is a call for volunteers to assist St Mary’s House of Welcome to wrap Christmas presents. As volunteers (either as individuals or as part of a small group) you don’t need to commit to a full day – just whatever time you can spare. This activity is occurring at the following three sites in the City on the dates and times listed:
If you’d like to volunteer or find out more, please contact Gregor Poole, XSJN Coordinator on 0427 413 503 or at [email protected].
The second is where the XSJN is seeking employers within the community who can offer work experience placements to young people at risk of homelessness from Education First Foyer. These placements are flexible and can range from two to six weeks, or whatever works for the employer. Each young person will be supported by a caseworker throughout their placement.
The kind of roles that the XSJN is looking for include in hospitality, retail, community services, law, administration, or the arts fields. The young people are already usually undertaking studies in the related fields. The decision as to wherever the work experience students need to be paid is up to each employer to determine but the students understand that this is voluntary experience.
If you’d like to offer work experience or find out more, please contact Gregor Poole, XSJN Coordinator on 0427 413 503 or at [email protected].
